Apple OS X Mavericks 10.9 a.k.a ‘Mavericks’ is now available for Mac users to try out. It’s free, its has a ton of new features and even touted by many as a ‘revolutionary’ upgrade.

The era of the ‘Big Cats’ titles for OS updates is now over, with Apple shifting it’s attention towards location based titles, with the first being ‘Mavericks’. For those who are unaware of this place, it’s a surfing beach in California; What better to associate an OS upgrade with a ‘new wave’.

There are many changes (both minor and major) in the Apple OS X Mavericks 10.9 upgrade. In fact, Apple claim the new OS comes with well over 200 brand-spanking new features and improvements. However, in this article, we’ll go through the 5 best features that need to be tried out by all Mac users.

Apple OS X Mavericks 10.9 Features

Multiple Screen Display

Thanks to the new upgrade, users can connect multiple screens to their Macintosh computers; making it possible to simultaneously run different functions on separate monitors. With the OS X 10.9, every individual display will show its own unique dock dashboard as well as the menu bar. Additionally, users can run individual apps on full-screen mode on separate monitors. This cool new feature is also supported by Apple’s AirPlay as well.

iCloud Keychain App

Previously removed from the iOS 7, the iCloud Keychain feature is back. The iCloud Keychain app will let users save all their personal data (including usernames, passwords, credit card information) and sync with all connected Apple gadgets and devices. This feature also supports ‘auto-complete’ with a browser like Safari. By default, this feature is disabled, and users will have to go to System Preferences -> iCloud menu to make use of it.

Safari Browser – New and Improved

Talking about the internet browsers, the Safari browser gets lots of new features, patches and overall improvements. Now, the browser is faster and much more user friendly, and can actually give competitors like Google’s Chrome, and Mozilla’s Firefox a tough time. Security wise, the new Mavericks OS X upgrade has strengthened Safari’s back-end structure, and now can provide reliable resistance to external threats, viruses and malware.

As mentioned earlier, the Safari browser works seamlessly with the iCloud Keychain feature, allowing users to manage their personal information and passwords much easily. Personally, we love the new bookmarks interface, allowing much easier organization and access.

Improved Tabs

The Mavericks OS X upgrade has new and elegant tabs, which allows separate windows to be merged, organized and re-ogranized according to user preference. While in full-screen mode, users can easily drag and drop windows and create as many tags as they need to. Although the feature as a whole is subtle, but it has a massive effect on user experience.

Better Battery Life

The Mavericks OS X is effecient; and gives out a much longer battery time. The new features, surprisingly, reduce battery consumption. Take for example the ‘Compressed Memory’ feature, which will continuously compress memory not in use resulting in free memory, and less burden on the batteries. We love the fact that you instantly check which resource is draining the most of your battery life by a simple tap on the battery icon. This feature is of great help in situations when you desperately need to save your battery life.

A feature worth mentioning is the ‘Power Nap’, which allows your OS to update itself even in sleep-mode. So far, users have reported an increase of at least 2 hours of battery life, with the OS X Mavericks upgrade.

These are just few of the many features that come with the Apple OS X Mavericks 10.9 – We recommend that you do upgrade to check them all out; it’s fast, reliable, elegant, and above all, totally free!
