5 Great Flickr Search Engines
Posted on 22. Apr, 2009 by srikanth in Browsers, How To, Internet Tools
Flickr is the hub for some stunning, beautiful, unusual, pleasing, scary(sometimes) and fabulous pieces of photography. Though Flickr search is fine, it might not always lead you to the exact image you were looking for.
Here we present 5 Flickr search engines which are powered by the Flickr API to help you navigate and explore Flickr in a better way.
FlickrStorm
FlickrStorm is a Flickr search engine powered by the Flickr API. You can either open the images on the site or on Flickr. The features which are handy on FlickrStorm are:
- It provides you with History, to see the pictures you recently clicked on.
- A tray, where you can add / remove photos, download and link to them.
- It allows you to refine your search with related words.
It even provides you with a custom link to see the Photo Set you have saved to your tray. Advanced options to search images by the corresponding type of license are also made available.
LiteFlick
LiteFlick is a fast way to search for interesting photos on Flickr. It displays the search results in an 8 by 10 grid so that you can see 80 pictures at once and choose the picture you like to preview.
It even provides you popular and related tags. You can conduct search by both keywords and Flickr username. It also allows you to sort results by recent, interesting and relevance. Options for advanced search by date, tags and creative commons licensed content are also available.
FlickrBabel
FlickrBabel is another great service to search for photos in Flickr. The operation and usefulness of this tool is very simple. When you enter a query in one language, FlickrBabel generates translations (with the Google Translation API) to other languages and creates an extended reference with these translations. Finally, the consultation is carried out by the Flickr API, and it displays the results on screen.
FlickrBabel also provides you with those pictures that have the same context as the original text or those that have been photographed in the nearby locations.
Tag Galaxy
TagGalaxy is an interesting concept referring to Flickr and tags, because the service is influenced by space. It gives you the space galaxy look and feel and is based on tags. You can rotate the picture galaxy in 3D, zoom in / out and preview the images in this virtual space.
To know more about it, you got to give it a try!
Flickriver
Flickriver has many additional Flickr photo views when compared to the normal photo views on Flickr. You can search and explore images on Flickr by user, group and tags while using Flickriver.
It also provides you with a Greasemonkey script that adds Flickriver links to various Flickr photo pages – user photos, favorites, pools etc, allowing you to quickly open the corresponding Flickriver view.
Do you have a favorite way to search Flickr? If so, tell us about it in the comments.
