I know I used to be one of those people that had a desktop that looks very similar to this picture, but I’ve found that I am much happier having the entire desktop clear of distractions. I did recently stumble across that many people actually believe that cluttered desktops can become art. Jokes aside, today I’m going to tell you guys how to go from cluttered to clean.
The first step you will take is to get all of those extra files or pictures off of your desktop. The best place to put them is somewhere in My Documents, but if you don’t want to fully organize them now, just make a junk folder in my documents and place all of the unneeded files in there.
Now that you have gotten rid moved those files for safe keeping. Your desktop should look something like this.
All that is left are those pesky icons that aren’t always easily removed. There is a great little tool from Microsoft called Tweak UI that will help us remove those last few icons. Once you have downloaded Tweak UI, open it up and click on desktop in the menu on the left.
Now, you will be able to uncheck everything that you want from the desktop, and just click apply. You will now have a perfectly clear desktop.
Bonus Coverage: Some of you (like myself) may still want the option to quickly get to things from the desktop. Well, there is a solution. RocketDock is an amazing little piece of freeware that lets you have all your favorite shortcuts, but hides outside of your desktop. I really recommend checking it out. Here is a screenshot of my RocketDock.
