Every week, I create a Weekly Links post that provides links to all of the great articles I visited over the past week. Before I started using the method I’m going to tell you about in this post, I would open up every article in its own tab, and I would copy and paste the title and article url into Windows Live Writer. After that, I would write in a little description that tells a little bit more about the link. It doesn’t take long to realize how inefficient that process was.
Also, sometimes links wouldn’t paste properly or windows would get closed. This just added to the time it took to make what was supposed to be a simple post. It was a very messy ordeal, but I now use Delicious to help me make my weekly links post.
The first step to getting a clean link post is to bookmark all of the articles you want in the post in Delicious. Make sure to fill out the Notes section, because you will want to give your readers a little more information about the link other than just the title.
Once you have bookmarked all of your links, click on your account settings within Delicious. On the settings page, you will see a Blogging area at the bottom. Click on Link Rolls. This will open a new page, and you will be given several options that will allow you to customize your Link Roll. Even with all the options, all I do is uncheck the tags box and change the number of bookmarks I want to appear in the Link Roll.
Once this is done, I just copy and paste the preview on the right. I choose to paste the list into Windows Live Writer, so I can add anything else I want to the post.
If you don’t mind the way Delicious has made the Link Roll, you have the option to copy some HTML code above the preview and paste that to your blog. Either way, you can now make your links post in a much more timely manner.
