How to Make a Torrent File

These days torrent files are getting more and more prevalent, because they provide a great benefit for the person distributing the file. Torrent files allow whoever is uploading the ability to not shoulder the entire bandwidth strain that comes along with a massively downloaded file.
There are other reasons to use torrents, but that’s another discussion. Let’s get to the how-to of making a torrent file.
The first thing you need to do is go grab uTorrent. uTorrent is bittorrent client that will allow you to make a torrent file. There are other good bittorrent clients out there that are capable of making a torrent file, but I believe that uTorrent is the best one due to its ease of use and small memory footprint.
Once uTorrent is installed, open it up and click File on the top menu. With the menu open, click Create New Torrent.
A new window will pop up, and you should start by clicking Add file in order to add the file you want to turn into a torrent file. If you want to make an entire folder a torrent file, you need to zip that file first in order to make it a torrent file.
As you can see, there are several options within torrent properties. If you know your tracker and web seed information, you should fill out those fields. If you don’t, you can leave them blank and save the file without a tracker or web seeds. Now, click Create and save as in order to create your torrent file. Just save the file where you want and you have just made a torrent file.
