How To Speed Up BitComet

bitcometTorrents have become a popular means for downloading any kind of files on the Internet. In fact, torrents have totally redefined the way files are downloaded on the Internet. Now, there are many free programs are available which manage your torrent downloading.

This way of downloading is so satisfying when you are using a high speed Internet connection, because all the torrent managers work wonderfully under such conditions. But if you are using a low speed Internet connection like dial-up, how could you boost your Internet speed?

Once you finish reading this article, you will see the difference in your downloading speed. If you are aware of torrents,  you would have surely  heard of BitComet.  It is a Bit Torrent download manager. The following are a few steps, that will boost your downloading speed.

Step 1

Open the BitComet Client.

Once the client opens, click on the Tools tab and then click on Options tab.

Now, before you change any setting, you have to precisely find the upload speed of your Internet connection. Then calculate 80% of that. For example, if the upload of your Internet connection is 50kBps then 80% would be 40kBps.

If you are not aware of the upload speed of your Internet connection, then simply get on to this web site: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/. Just click on the any of the servers and wait until it checks your Internet connection. Within a minute, the download speed and the upload speed of your Internet connection will be displayed.

Now, in the connection preferences have a look at General Settings, you have to change the Global Max Upload Rate as 40 kBps and make sure that you do not change the Global Max Download Rate.

Step 4

In the same panel as above, you will find the Listen Port section where the port number will be mentioned as 7895. You can change that port number to ranging between 491155 and 65534.

And that is all. Now you can download any torrent file and you will be surprised to see that download speeds have been boosted up.
