5 Sites to Get Free Medical Textbooks
Posted on 06. Jan, 2010 by Nicólas Crognali in Internet Tools
Are you one of those students or professionals that thrive on continuing your education? There are lots of ways to continue your education, and one of them is through reading textbooks. The problem with textbooks is that they can be amazingly expensive. Through my research around the Internet, I’ve found several sites that give you great medical textbooks for free.
Most of the books are in PDF or some other type of online format, but when the price is free, the format doesn’t really matter. Let’s dive into my top 5 sites to get free medical textbooks.
FreeBooks4Doctors
The first site I’d like to point your attention at is FreeBooks4Doctors, a side project of Amedeo. A great feature of FreeBooks4Doctors is that you can not only find textbooks in English, but also in other languages such as Spanish, German, French, and Chinese. The textbooks range from subjects such as Vascular Surgery to Clinical Procedures.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Another wonderful site to use is the National Institutes of Health’s database for free textbooks, as it is backed by the Government of the United States of America. The content you’ll find on this database is most likely the most rich in terms of quality, as the textbooks are reviewed by the Government before they are put on the site.
Welovelmc
Welovelmc offers links to many different universities that have free medical textbooks or lectures online. The main feature that stands out at this site is the access to lectures. Lectures provide another tool to help you extend your education, and there are some notable universities on the site like Yale and UC Davis.
Free Medical Books
Free Medical Books is the easiest site of the five to navigate, and it includes videos. Just like the lectures mentioned before, it is always nice to have other options for your education.
Gigapedia
If you haven’t guessed by now, I love to read. Gigapedia goes beyond the barriers of medical textbooks and offers ebooks in virtually any subject you can think of.
Conclusion
All of the resources mentioned above are fantastic resources to continue your learning. What websites do you use to continue learning in your field after you graduated?

This is a nice list, thanks.
What would be nice would be a way to get any type of text book for free. I think that with textbooks being replaced with new editions almost every semester, textbook companies should make older versions available. It is annoying to have to pay for a new book when the last edition is perfectly up to date and usable.

This is a really nice list, but I think i’d like to add another name to the list if I may!
The website, http://www.freemedicaltextbook.com – is also a new website that is offering textbook resources for healthcare professionals, currently in medical school, and those who are currently practicing. The resources are extensive and really, even though it is being built as we speak and is a work in progress, it still offers alot! so go for it and check it out. I’d love to hear what you have to say about it! http://www.freemedicaltextbook.com
P.S. They also have medical prep like USMLE stuff for Medical School students.
