Twitter’s 140 character limit is often very annoying.  You can’t share or organize a lot of information from a list of tweets. Sometimes, I want to create a list of interesting links or blog posts that are shared on my Twitter timeline and the one tool which helps in organizing information at one place is Paper.li

Paper.li is a service which allows users to organize tweets or links shared on Twitter in a very easy to read newspaper format. You can use the service to create a customized newspaper for any Twitter hashtag, Twitter list or Twitter user.

While there are other apps to achieve similar things, whats unique about Paper.li is that you can share the customized newspaper with anyone. Let’s see how paper.li works.

How to Create a Twitter Newspaper using Paper.li

First, you have to authorize the application by clicking the “Sign in” link placed at the right top and sign in to your Twitter account. You can also use your Facebook account for the verification procedure.

Once the verification is complete, click the link Create a newspaper and you will see the following screen:

Create Twitter Newspaper using paper.li

From here on, you have three options to choose from:

  • Create a newspaper of a particular Twitter user and his followers – the newspaper will be created using all the links shared in the past 24 hours by the selected Twitter user.
  • Create a newspaper of a particular Twitter hash tag (e.g #Google or #Firefox and so on) – The newspaper will be created using all the links shared in the past 24 hours who have tweeted the same hash tag.
  • Create a newspaper of a Twitter list – the news paper will be created using all the links shared in the past 24 hours by all all Twitter users selected in the list.

After the newspaper has been made, you will be shown a link to the newspaper which you can promote by sharing the link with anyone.  I created the newspaper using the #Google hashtag and here is how it looks:

Anyone can browse this newspaper using this link. This is extremely useful, because you can share a list of links with your friends who are not very active on Twitter or Facebook. The second advantage is that you can create a small content area on topics of your interest and then share them with your friends and family members.

The newspaper will aggregate content from different sources and will preview YouTube videos, blog posts and trending topics in the sidebar.

When you hover on a link or a news entry, you will be able to know the corresponding tweet and the user who tweeted that link. This is again a useful feature, you can quickly scan through the newspaper to find interesting links, instead of filtering them from a whole bunch of links from your ususal Twitter timeline.

The only downside is that Paper.li lets you create a maximum of 10 lists per account, but that’s fair when you want to have a daily digest of useful links from your Timeline. Do you know any other service which lets you create something similar? Let’s hear them in the comments.
