Firefox Plugin Yoono Puts All Your Social Media in One Place

yoono-logoI admit, I’m almost addicted to all this social media thing. I will tweet about my Facebook and post pictures to Flickr just so I can blog about it. Many of you also use MySpace, Flickr, Imeem, FriendFeed, AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Live.

So let me ask you something. Is it fun having to click a hundred times just to check if there’s anything new on your favorite social media websites? It sure is not for me. I’ve tried many different gadgets and applications to tweet from my desktop. I even enabled the sidebar again! But since Firefox is the program that runs for me most of the time, I had to find something to put it in it.

Yoono is great, but I won’t lie to you, it also has its downfalls. However, once you set the gadget, it works pretty well. You can install it from the Firefox Add-On site, of course for free.

Introduction

Now, the first time I checked what Yoono can do, I thought it only served as a Swiss Army Knife for social media, since every Facebook and Twitter update show up in real time. Besides that, you can log on MSN Messenger if you like, and you will get all the updates in one sidebar.

Discover Relevant Information

But I was wrong. Yoono is far from being just a simple sidebar tool that gathers updates. The first awesome thing I noticed the next time I visited one of my favorite websites, were the underlined words. Not all of them, of course, only the relevant ones. When you hover your cursor over those words, the magnifying glass appears, and when you click it, a pop-up box tells you the definition of the word, offers you to check the websites about it, shop related stuff, see the photos and videos, and read the news about it. If the words that interest you are not underlined, just select them and the magic magnifying glass shall appear again.

This option is called the Discovery. It can be accessed in the toolbar as well, where you have the related websites, Wikipedia articles with similar words, photos and Google Search results.

Share What You Find

The third main feature is sharing what you find with your friends. You can do that in two ways: you either click on the share button in the sidebar or right-click on a video, photo or text, and select “share”. When you do that, a pop-up box appears with all your Social Media accounts available, where you can post your discovery.

Downfalls

I’ve mentioned some downfalls about the application. Well, there was only one downfall by default: pop-up alerts whenever my Twitter or Facebook friends posted anything new, which is very annoying. You are doing something and some random thing about your colleague covers half of your screen. But after you uncheck a few options, it’s better.

Frankly, I was a bit skeptic about Yoono, for I thought How can something with so many features and only 0.8MB work sans problems? You know the 3-in-1 printers, right? They can print, scan and fax, but nothing seem to work properly. Yoono is not that way. A few tweaks, and it’s as useful as a towel, while hitchhiking through the Universe.

Conclusion

If you are a social media freak (or a stalker, for that matter), I recommend you Yoono. No more annoying clicking through your bookmarks to post a short message. Do it from your sidebar and use those seconds to save the world or whatever you do. Remember that advertising trick, the appeal to masses? Almost three million people can’t be wrong. In this case, I dare to say so. And by the way, if you want the Desktop version, click here. Before that, visit their official website.

I think Yoono are doing a great job with their addon but still in the discovering section they are a little behind after addons like SimilarWeb.
    Here is a link http://www.similarweb.com

I agree! I’ve just tried SimilarWeb and it’s one of the best tools for Firefox. Thank you for the tip, Gibson. Of course, if anyone knows for similar awesome websites, tell us.
