dotemplateEveryday millions of new websites are being launched online from various corners across the world. No matter what the purpose of a website is, the site has to have a great design in order to impress first time visitors. Although many people like to say, “Content is King,” it’s not right all the time. Design plays a significant role in whether a reader decides to come back to the site again at a later time.

The problem with design is that it’s not easy.  So, how can I get a nice looking design without spending all my money on a professional?  Well, you can search around Google for free templates that may or may not have been used by thousands of other people, or you might want to check out DoTemplate.

Overview

Primarily, DoTemplate is a free template gallery, but it doesn’t end there. DoTemplate allows you to make modifications to the design in order to make your template much more unique than the other run of the mill options out there.

Creating Your Template

First, you will need to choose a default template from DoTemplate gallery. There are not a lot of templates to choose from; however, by customizing the template you choose, you can give a single template entirely different looks.

Once chosen, just click the Customize and Download button, and you will be redirected to the editing panel. Here, you can change any part of your site. The entire site will be displayed, and you can click wherever you want to change.

For example, click on the header logo. You can drag and change the placement of the logo as well as increasing font size, changing text, and lots of other options.

In addition to changing the header, you can change the footer, content area, navigation bar, sidebar, etc. If you want, you can also change the header image choosing from the DoTemplate gallery or uploading an image from your computer.

It should be noted that you must keep a link in the footer of the template to keep the template free.  You can donate $10 to remove it.  It all depends on your preference.

Conclusion

Although we have been living in a blogging trend lately, the need for a static website isn’t over yet. So, if you or your company need a website template, consider checking out DoTemplate. It provides the basics you need with a little customization thrown in.

This looks like a really nice tool for creating a quick, attractive template. I would use something like this to put up a quick informational site. And, with any CSS you could always try and port it to drupal or Wordpress :)
