twitter-logoEveryone’s Twitter habits are different. Some use a twitter client like Tweetdeck, and some are happy with the web interface. Every platform has its own limits and advantages, but sometimes, all you want is a simple way to publish a tweet or two, without all the usual fuss.

Twitlet and TweetPkr provide you with a simple bookmarklet solutions to posting to Twitter and checking on your Twitter friends.

Post Tweets Without The Bells and Whistles

Twitlet is a free service which packs up the update box in a nifty bookmarklet button, which you can use on any browser.  All you have to do is click it to publish a tweet.

Clicking the bookmarklet pops up a javascript prompt where you can enter in your tweet and use the commands #link or #this to post the url of the currently open web page and it will automatically shorten the link with the is.gd URL shortening service.

Making Your Bookmarklet

Creating a bookmarklet is extremely simple and no signup is required. When you create a bookmarklet with them, your username and password (which you’ll have to provide) will be stored in the bookmarklet itself, in encrypted form. So it wont be readable, but it is not impossible to decrypt it, so it’s better that you don’t use it on a public computer.

Take a Peek at Your Twitter Friends from Anywhere

TweetPkr (Tweet-peeker) is another use-it-anywhere-javascript-bookmarklet creation service. When you click the bookmarklet, it loads your Twitter in a sidebar on the current page you are viewing.

It lets you take a quick glance at your Twitter timeline, make new tweets (feature added on last update) and reply to tweets. The latest 20 tweets are shown and the sidebar can be scrolled to view all of them. When you are done, just press escape or click the close button and you are back to work.

Just like Twitlet, Tweetkpr doesn’t store any usernames and passwords with it but rather encrypts them and stores them in the bookmarklet itself. So you are advised not to use these services on a public computer.

What’s the final shot?

These applications may not be required for minute to minute tweeting, but ease of use makes them worth a check. Both of these service are free, do not require any registration and can be used on all browsers supporting javascript bookmarks.

And since these are bookmark dependent, you can create as many bookmarks as you want and manage multiple accounts on Twitter!

Yes. Both there are excellent tools.

I had created a screencast for TwitLet, that Dara Kilicoglu said, he would put up on the site.
