5 Great Traveling Websites

We all like to travel, but paying for it and planning it can sometimes be a little more difficult than you expected.  I’ve rounded up five different websites that my wife and I use every time we take a trip somewhere.  I’m sure you’ll find them useful, and feel free to let me know what sites you use.  I can always use the extra tips.

Mobissimo

mobissimo log

Mobissimo is best described as a travel site search engine.  It searches all the sites you would normally look through (i.e. Expedia, Hotwire, etc.) while looking for plane tickets or hotels at the same time.  They search over 140 different travel sites to find you the best rate on flights, hotels and car rentals.  Kayak is an alternative to Mobissimo, but I think that Mobissimo is a little quicker and more comprehensive.

Farecast

Farecast tries to predict how the prices of hotels and flights are going to move from your time of search.  Much like the stock market, it gives you odds on if you should buy or wait on a certain hotel or flight. There is risk involved, but I have had good results from taking their advice.

TripIt

Tripit makes it easy to have a neat and pretty schedule for all of your layovers, airplane changes and hotel check out times.  I have always been an organized person, but I  have gotten confused a few times on vacation about the various take off times and check out times.  Tripit makes it easy to keep track by putting all of that information in one place.

TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor provides you with the most comprehensive user reviews for travel anywhere on the net.  Want to know if that hotel has service as good as their own website says?  TripAdvisor is the place for this answer.  With over 25 million travelers from 190 countries, you’ll find the information you are looking for.

Roadside America

Roadside America is definitely the oddball on the list.  All of the other sites are fairly normal and just all around great tools that anyone would use.  Roadside America focuses on some of the attractions you might not hear about in other places.  The giant rooster or homemade castle will fill the list of things to see around the town you are traveling to.  This isn’t for everyone, but if you like to take in the most unique and strange attractions an area has to offer, this site is for you.

I use kayak, but more and more I´m using dohop (www.dohop.com).
Much faster and pretty consistently with lower prices.

I always book with the airline direct and I use http://www.whichbudget.com to find which budget airline flies where.
They used to do mainly good for Europe, but I see they now have a lot of international flights too.
