plurk logoTwitter has been having lots of issues with downtime over the past…well as long as I can remember. This has opened the doors for other services to step forward and try to take the microblogging crown. Plurk is the newest service that has been getting the most press as of late. Plurk has some very unique features that make it a threat to Twitter, but will it really surpass Twitter?

Let’s learn more about the unique features of Plurk. Plurk provides you with a much more visual experience, as you are able to see all of your friends Plurks on a timeline on your homepage.

The entries to Plurk are different from Twitter, in that you have what they call “qualifiers.” They are the little highlighted words you see on the entries above. They consist of words like is, thinks, feels, etc. Plurk will also allow you to “freestyle” which is just a fancy way of saying you are not using a qualifier.

The feature that I think is really the most useful is the ability to make entries that are only visible to certain people. You can make a Plurk that can be seen by only certain friends, a clique, or the entire world.

The question is, will Plurk become more popular than Twitter? I’m not sure, but I do know that Twitter must come out with some new features and fix their downtime issues if they want to remain on top. Come join me on Plurk, and let me know what you think.

You are right that Twitter has a lot of problems, but I don’t see one service coiming in and swooping away all of the Twitter users.

First off, they have a share of market and share of mind much larger than most startups, but still a tiny fraction of the popultion. The buzz in the general public is “I may have to learn more about Twitter”

Then there is the issues of features. Can we trust a service that is “just like Tiwtter” plus added features? What would happen if we all switched and overladed them?

I have not idea how long Tiwtter will survive.. but I know that we’ll be tweeting for some time to come. A quick service with text, access from many places (everywhere I want) and connections to the real people I want to hear from.

Bottom line, I want to hook up with my friends. I’ll go where they are… and so far, that’s still Twitter

@Warren I completely agree with all your points. I think Twitter will continue to be the market leader for some time to come, but I do know that Twitter must continue to improve and innovate to stay on top.
