Backup Your Mac with SuperDuper
Posted on 23. Feb, 2009 by Luis Sandoval in Software
As a Mac user I am protective of my information and understand that while Macs might have the myth of “never getting a virus” around them, it’s not always true. Infections can indeed attack a Mac, and they are also just as susceptible to hardware failure over time as a standard Windows machine
Because of these facts, I like to take precautions with SuperDuper, a great backup software for Macs.
A Backup Story
As digital wanderers, we spend a lot of time on our computers. Whether for business or pleasure, we surf the net, watch media, listen to music and create documents. All of these tasks become vital components of our daily life. Now, imagine you wake up one day and it’s all gone. It happens, to some of us, we know all too well what this means. Data loss…unless you’ve done a backup.
A SuperDuper Backup
SuperDuper for Mac is an amazing application that does a full back up, and compliments OSX’s Time Machine quite well. The application is FREE, but the advanced options do come at a one time premium price. I personally have only needed the free version, and I am not a power techy, so perhaps if you are, the premium version might interest you.

For the uninitiated, SuperDuper lines up reasons why you might need the application:
- Your hard drive starts making that horrible clicking noise that signals an imminent meltdown
- A momentary lapse of coordination causes your PowerBook to take a dirt nap
- The system suddenly fails to boot
- Your most important day-to-day application isn’t working with the system update you just applied
- The new driver you just updated is causing your Macintosh to crash
- That lousy software you just tried didn’t come with an uninstaller, and scattered files all over your drive
- You need to restore a stable copy of your system, but don’t want to lose what you’ve been working on
- You need to test new versions of the operating system with production data you can’t afford to lose
Conclusion
SuperDuper is easy to use, and does not lose you in technical jargon. The easy to read and understand interface ensures that the user gets exactly what they are asking for with little need to contact tech support. It’s a definite piece for any Mac arsenal.
