stick figureI have never been very good at drawing (the picture to the left is an example of my work), much less animation.  However, computers and the Internet somehow always manage to make the impossible, possible.

Pivot Stickfigure Animator lets you easily create some very cool stick figure animations very quickly.  All you have to do is pose them frame by frame until you finish your masterpiece.  Think of it as that flip book animation you made in the 5th grade.  It’s the same idea, just on your computer and much quicker.

Let the Animation Begin

Opening up Pivot Stickfigure Animator gives you some basic controls, a white background and a stick figure.

stickfigure controls

The basic idea is to pose the stick figure as you see fit and then click the Next Frame button.  Just repeat this process several times, and you will have some basic animation on your hands.

Controls

Pivot Stickfigure Animator keeps it simple by only giving you a few controls.  You can change the color and some of the shape of your figures, and that is about it.  You may also add new figures or create your own.  Once you have taken a few frames, you can click the play button to get a preview of your work.  While you are taking the frames of you work, a story board will appear at the top of the window.  This provides you with a still summary of your work.

You can delete frames or insert frames as you please, because when you start to preview your work, you will definitely see some gaps in your animation.  You can also add a background, so your stick figures can hang out at your favorite place as well.

Creating Another Stick Figure

Having only one stick figure can be boring, so you should definitely add in some extras.  You can add in another plain one or make your own.  Again, the controls are pretty limited, but I did manage to give my new stick figure a sword which is pretty awesome.

Finished Product

Once you have added all of your figures and animated them to your heart’s content, it is time to save your animation.  I saved mine as a gif in order to show you my amazing animation skills.

Who doesn’t love a nice stick figure battle?  I know I do…that’s why I made it.  What would your animation be?

This is the only animation software that I know of or have used. It allowed me to do some very basic animations and is a lot of fun!

Start by trying your hand in 2D animation. Stick figure is too basic and can’t be called proper animation software. You can try Flash animation or use any free 2D animation software. Synfig is a good one.

Chcekout some Synfig and some 2D animation videos made using it.

Then slowly go into 3D animation.
