Digsby: A Great Multi-IM Client
Posted on 02. Jul, 2008 by Kyle Judkins in Software
Digsby is one of the best, if not the best, multi-IM client available. It offers lots of features and gives you the flexibility you always wanted from your instant messaging client of choice. These features include support for most IM clients, email integration, and social network integration.
Digsby has the base IM capabilities of most multi-IM programs. It supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber. This allows you to have all your contacts in one place.
Having multiple screen names in an instant messenger is an amazing feature, but it isn’t new. This is why Digsby recently added support for the Facebook messenger. Now you don’t have to be on the webpage to chat it up with your friends.
The true strengths for Digsby comes from its ability to alert you of email and social network updates. Digsby supports Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL/AIM Mail, IMAP, and POP.
You can get email notifications just like you get in Outlook or Thunderbird, but from the convience of your instant messenger. In the notification window, you can perform simple tasks like marking as spam or marking as read. You can also send emails directly from your IM windows.
Digsby supports Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace on the social networking side of things. Just like email, you receive updates and alerts right in your IM client. This keeps you up to date with all of your friends. You can also update your Facebook or Twitter status in order to let your friends be up to date with you.
What are you waiting for? Go get Digsby!

I would have said Facebook chat is a huge difference, but I think I read there was a plugin or an update to make it work on Pidgin. I’ll be honest with you. I have limited experience with Pidgin. If you try both, I’d love to hear what you think.
