Q-Dir is a Great Portable File Manager

Comprehensive 4 Pane View

Q-Dir optimally uses your desktop space. You can manage four folders at a time, which enables you to save much of your time. You cam just drag the target folder and drop it on the panel showing the required destination. This makes the whole file managing task hassle free.

If you are not comfortable with the default 4 pane view, do not worry. This application provides you with an option to customize the view of its panel. There are number of options provided on the top of the application where you can simply change its view. You can make the interface panel have 3 panes or 2 panes. So it is all up to your comfort levels.

Quick-Links

You can make a list of your favorite folders by using the option Quick-Links. Whenever you need to use that folder, you can simply select that for your customized Quick-Link list. This is something that most other file managers lack.

Filter Box

This is an improved feature that already existed in the previous version. You can access this option from the lower right corner of each pane. Q-Dir enforces “Auto Wildcard” option by default which enables the system to consider .avi as *.avi* which makes your work easier.

Color Schemes for Files

This is undoubtedly one of the coolest features of Q-Dir. You can set a particular color for each type of file. For example, you can set GREEN for folders, PINK for .jpeg files. This helps you to predict the type of file without looking at its extension.

Portability

You can either install the Q-Dir_Installer.exe which works like any other software, or you can rename is as Q-Dir.exe which enables you to use the application without using the computer’s resources. Apart from this, its size is so small that it is an ideal tool for a USB stick.

Shell Integration

If you want to open files with Q-Dir each time, then you can add “open with QDir” as the shell extension by following these steps:

Click on “EXTRAS” on the Main Menu panel.
Click on “SYSTEM”
Enable the “Add Q-Dir to the shell context menu” option.
Now you can find “Q-Dir” at the context menu of each folder.

Perfect Substitute for Windows Explorer

The looks of the panel layout is similar to the default Windows Explorer. This makes the user very comfortable with this application. It even displays the columns showing the files and folder details, pretty much like default Windows Explorer. This will totally overwhelm you as your work will be hassle free because of the known environment.

Q-dir is undoubtedly the best files and folder manager of the present times. Using this application is so much easier, and you will not find any difference between Q-Dir and default Windows Explorer.
