As a blogger that tries to constantly market myself through social networks, I am often frustrated by having to open so many tabs or go to so many webpages just to update my status. Sites like Ping.fm are making it easier through aggregating some of the updates, but it’s still another website to go to (if you don’t have a Ping.fm invite, get one here). I prefer desktop clients like Twhirl, if I can have them.
SocialAddict is a new desktop application that allows you to update several social networking sites from the comfort of your desktop.
SocialAddict isn’t as polished as other Adobe AIR applications out there, but what it lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in substance. SocialAddict brings more than just a few social networks to your desktop. It brings eleven, and this makes my life much easier. I can now access BrightKite, Facebook, FriendFeed To Go, Hellotxt, Jaiku, MySpace, Ping.fm, Plurk, Pownce, SocialThing and Twitter from my desktop.
Several of those services have desktop clients already, but most of those clients are limited to just a few services. To my knowledge, this is the most services put together for one desktop application. All the services in one place is great, but having Ping.fm on my desktop was enough for me to check this program out. I must admit that SocialAddict hasn’t replaced Twhirl as my Twitter client and may not replace someone else’s specialized client, but it will work its way into the rotation. Does anyone else use a desktop application like this?
