Besides having the most obvious name any piece of software has Adobe Photoshop Speedup does exactly as it name suggests and doesn’t go wrong in providing a light-weight, dead-simple way to tweak the preload of plugins and fonts in Photoshop.  It provides a snappier lagless start up for Photoshop with just under two seconds on my machine.

Setup

Just download Adobe Photoshop Speedup and run the 311Kb executable.  You’ll be greeted with a panel that allows you to remove or add to the list of plug-ins that will not be loaded on startup.  All you have to do is right click on an entry and then choose Remove from List, as shown in the screenshot below.  You can also choose to remove all from the list.

Loading Plug-ins

Having some plug-ins not preload doesn’t mean you can’t use them when you want to in Photoshop, instead it simply means that when you do need them that Photoshop will load them on the spot.

Plug-in Habits

Now that you have this handy little tool, you can give yourself some time to monitor your photoshoping habits.  What plug-ins do you use, and what plug-ins don’t you use?  Once you figure this out, you can customize Photoshop startup based on that.  If anything goes wrong, you can always click restore and everything should be back to normal.
