I use Gmail and Thunderbird, but I have stored all of my contacts on Thunderbird instead of Gmail. This never caused a problem until I started getting more and more into social networks.
Often, social networking sites will allow you to connect to your Gmail in order to see if any of your contacts are using that social network already. I found myself a little sad that I couldn’t just import my Thunderbird contacts.
Along comes Zindus to rescue me from this non-synced world. Zindus is an extremely easy to use Thunderbird plugin that allows you to sync all of your contacts across Thunderbird and Gmail.
The only problem I ran into was that Zindus doesn’t like it when you have duplicate contacts. This was a little frustrating, but there isn’t any other option that I know of to sync these contacts.
One other thing to take into consideration is the fact that Gmail and Thunderbird don’t have the same contact fields. To avoid any problems, you may want to create backups of each address book, so you can restore if something doesn’t sync the way you like.
