Top 5 Free Applications Every Blogger Needs
Posted on 21. May, 2008 by Kyle Judkins in Software
I have only been a blogger for a short time, but there are already certain applications I can’t live without. They improve my productivity and help me better manage my blog. Here are the five applications I can’t live without.
Windows Live Writer is a desktop blogging application that allows you to write and edit posts from your desktop. This software makes it extremely easy to insert photos and videos to your post. It has also made me more productive due to the fact that I can work on new posts even when there is no Internet connection available.
FileZilla is a great FTP client that makes it easy to upload any new updates, themes or plugins you may want to add to your WordPress.
IrfanView is a great screen capturing and editing tool for bloggers, because it is lightweight and easy to use. It also has tons of plugins that add to its already great functionality.
Twhirl is a Twitter and FriendFeed desktop client. Twhirl makes it easy to update from your desktop and to keep up with all of your friends and readers. Recently, twhirl added the ability to cross post to Pownce and Jaiku. This makes it even easier to stay in touch with everyone.
Flock is a new social web browser based on the Mozilla code. It gives you the ability to manage several social networks and your RSS feeds from your browser. Those are great features, but it isn’t the reason for its inclusion. It is included for its ability to easily post videos, photos, or articles to your blog. Updating your blog while surfing the web has never been so easy.

Hey,
Great post, I must say…I’ve used Desktop Blogging software in the past, but I never knew there was a Windows version of the application?
I’ll have to give it a look!
Thanks

I have tried some of the other desktop blogging softwares and Windows Live Writer has been the best for me, but I am always on the lookout for something new. Let me know what you use.

IrfanView is an amazing piece of free software. Tons of applications, and so easy to use. I use this for all of my image management needs.
If you use IrfanView, write the creator and let him know how much you appreciate his work!

i agree with ur recommedation of filezilla and live writer. i’ve been using it for 6 months now and they are absolutely great. filezilla is definitely a great ftp client.
Windows Live writer do crashes few times when i try to add video and audio stuff, but otherwise it’s great to handle blog posts without openening ur blog’s dashboard online.
i am rather afraid that if i preview my homepage too often (to check my posts are published correctly) then google might flag for fraud impression on my blog.
i like to take care of these things in advance. if i m wrong here then plz let me know.
