Ultimate Freeware List: Media Players

Here at LostInTechnology, we strive to give you great information on great tools and software. Most articles tend to focus on one or a few specific tools or programs. The Ultimate Freeware Lists serious is going to change that format around.
We are going to provide you with tons of different tools that are all free and will really expand your arsenal of great programs and software. These lists are by no means going to be perfect, and we ask all of our great readers to help us complete the lists by adding some comments.
The first list is going to cover media players. I’m very excited about this serious and ever more excited about your comments.
VLC Media Player: It’s a cross-platform media player and streaming server. VLC is available for multiple OSs, including all versions of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux distributions.
GOM Media player: GOM Player includes many codecs, so you won’t need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, it will find one and direct you to a place where you can download an open source version of the codec. It is only available for Windows.
Mplayer: MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems. One of its great feature is the wide range of supported output drivers.
Foobar2000: Foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats.
Fusion media player: Fusion Media Player supports audio MPEG Layer 3 streaming. It is fully compatible with Shoutcast/Icecast. You can load the Shoutcast playlists with the Fusion Media Player.
Kantaris media player: Kantaris is an all new media player based on code from Videolan client (VLC) and Bass audio library. It has a graphical user interface similar to that of Windows Media Player. It works with Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Songbird: Songbird is an open-source customizable music player. You can get recommendation for new tracks based on your listening habits. It integrates well with last.fm, mashtape, ShoutCast Radio. Songbird runs on Windows, Linux and Mac and includes multi-language support.
Quintessential Media Player: Quintessential Media Player is a feature rich media player for Microsoft Windows. It supports all popular audio formats including MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, and CDs. It is highly skinnable and has a robust plug-in architecture.
Media jukebox: It plays all popular music file formts and audio podcasts. It allows you to rip, burn and encode to multiple formats. You can even create custom playlists and smartlists with Media Jukebox.
Elisa: Elisa is an open source cross-platform media center connecting the Internet to an all-in-one media player.
Amarok: Amarok is a powerful music player for Linux and Unix, MacOS X and Windows with an intuitive interface.
aTunes: aTunes is a full-featured audio player and manager, developed in Java, so it can be executed on different platforms: Windows, Linux and Unix-like systems. Currently plays mp3, ogg, wma, wav, flac, mp4 and radio streaming, allowing users to easily edit tags, organize music and rip Audio CDs.
Aqualung: Aqualung is a music player targeted at the GNU/Linux, it also runs on FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Microsoft Windows. It plays audio CDs, internet radio streams and podcasts as well as soundfiles in just about any audio format.
Banshee: Apart from playing music, it lets you sync your music and videos to your G1, iPod, or other device. Currently it is available for many Linux distributions and Mac OS X.
Cogx: Cog is a free open source audio player for OS X. Its features include gapless playback, file drawer and support for Last.fm and Growl.
Flash Mp3 Player: Flash MP3 Player is a web application that allows you to play music on your website easy and fast. You just need to embed it onto your site and the player will automatically scan a specified folder and form a playlist.

Ummm where are WMP, MediaMonkey, Winamp, MediaJukebox and iTunes? All of the above either are freeware or have completely free versions. "Ultimate" list? Not so much.

Hi,
The KM Player (KMP)is pretty good. Feature rich, quick, easy to use, and reliable. Worth a look.
