lego googleWhen you publish your blog, it is available to a global audience.   This means that people from different countries and regions will come to your blog through search engines or various other ways. With a global audience, your first language may not be your readers’ first language.

Until now, there weren’t a lot of options out there for translating your website.  Google has come up with a great tool for webmasters and bloggers called the “Google Translator Widget.”  This will translate your blog into 50 different languages.

textHave you noticed the power of images on the internet? From professional journalists to weekend bloggers, everyone uses images or pictures of various things in their articles to make it look attractive and help tell a story. Remember the saying:

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”

If you’re hosting your blog on, you probably have plenty of space to store your online images, but what if you run out one day or are using a hosting plan that gives you very little space?

One great way to save a little space is to host your photos on another site or service.  Most of these sites do more than just host images.  They could provide you photo editing tools or the ability to share your photos with lots of other people.  There are lots of great options for hosting photos, and we are going to tell you about 4 of them today.

12for12k logo

I have known about the 12for12k challenge for a month or so now, but I have finally made the time to get involved.  The idea is simple.  We want to raise $12,000 each month of 2009 for a different charity every month.  The charity for this month is UNICEF.

A small donation can make a huge impact, and you can read the latest 12for12k blog post to see how far your money would really go.

There are other ways to get involved besides donations.  Just spread the word through any social site you use, whether it’s Twitter, Facebook or your own blog.  Also, make sure to check out the site every month for updates on what the charity of the month is and to look at how our progress is coming along.  You can also follow the charity on Twitter.

Sous Chef: Mac App for Cooks and Cook-Challenged

Posted on 12. May, 2009 by Luis Sandoval.

souschef_icon_colorToday’s society has become an instant gratification society. We consume content, food, information, anything we can get our hands on, quickly, entirely, and we move on. Of course the speed of progress and the changing world help influence these changes, but what about taking the time to cook an well planned meal?

Impossible you say?

Well perhaps for some of us that are used to microwaving just about anything we can, it’s an odd concept to wrap our heads around. A great number of us have not left our college days where our diets included three main staples, pizza, Ramen noodles, and a “beverage” of choice. These habits have carried over into our professional and personal lives after college as we move from place to another, one meeting to the next, with little attention being given to where we are getting our daily intake of food.

For those us Mac users looking to unleash the chef inside all of us, or perhaps for those of us that already know how to cook but looking for more diverse recipes, Sous Chef for Mac is what you have been waiting for.

For all our Mac fans, I took to listing the top five blogging tools for the platform. Blogging has quickly become the media form of choice not just for individuals, but for large news outlets as well. The freedom that comes with blogging has attracted people from all walks of life, with interests as varied as stars in the sky.

With all the opportunity in the blogosphere, it was important for me to share the tools that I use as a Mac owner with the audience of Lost in Technology.  If you’ve not blogged out there before, these tools are not blogging platform specific. Blogger, Typepad, Movable Type and Wordpress all work with these tools. Take the plunge and share your thoughts with the world. Make sure you leave a comment below with your blog site so that our readers can visit and interact with you on your site.

Please note that not all the tools came FREE, some had a small price attached, but the software more than paid for itself when it came time to get posts done. If you are a MAC owner, make sure to check the series out and chime in with your thoughts on the applications, or perhaps if you use other methods, share those as well.

Tool #1: Newsfire

Tool #2: Ecto

Tool #3: Image Shackle

Tools #4 & #5: Pingoat & Pukka

Check back with Lost in Technology as we develop a new series of posts for Mac users!

Luis Sandoval is a media professional and consultant who shares his insights on social media and technology on his blog The Daily Slackr.
