How To Upgrade Your MacBook Hard Drive – Part 3
Posted on 01. Aug, 2009 by Douglas Reynolds.
Last time, I completed detailing the steps needed to clone a disk image to an external drive using SuperDuper. The process was quite seamless and very simple, SuperDuper did a great job and stands up to its name. We ended up doing some general comparisons between the old and new drive and are now ready to remove the new drive from the external enclosure, remove the old drive from a MacBook, and install the new drive in its place. We’ll then boot up with the new drive to see how it went.

How To Upgrade Your MacBook Hard Drive – Part 2
Posted on 30. Jul, 2009 by Douglas Reynolds.
I left off in Hard Drive Upgrade with an external drive prepared and ready to receive an image of my existing primary drive. That article discussed backup strategies, a list of items needed in order to perform the data migration and what is needed in order to get started. We then stepped through the process of formatting and partitioning an external drive.
In this article, we are going to go through the process of using SuperDuper.

How To Set Up An External Drive Enclosure
Posted on 29. Jul, 2009 by Douglas Reynolds.
An external drive is an excellent way to create on-site backups of your data. External drives are quite small and can function perfectly for taking your data with you and sharing on other host computers. Often times, organizing large files, such as video projects, images, audio, etc. are more conveniently stored on an external drive, especially when local disk space is a consideration. Using an external drive is one of the easiest ways to transfer a disk image to a new drive in the effort of upgrading one’s primary drive.
For my personal situation, which was to create an image of my existing drive and transfer it onto an upgrade drive, I decided that an external drive was better, faster, cheaper.

Picturesque: Photo Edits for Mac that Trump Photoshop
Posted on 21. Apr, 2009 by Luis Sandoval.
There is no doubt that Photoshop has become the heavy hitter with photo edits and graphic creation. Adobe has laid it’s dominance down for quite sometime, and with the acquisition of Macromedia, there is little out there to offer competition enough to change the tide of popularity. Several open source applications have risen up to tackle the behemoth, the most popular being GIMP. GIMP has acquired quite the following but even those followers admit that Photoshop offers a bevy of choices that GIMP still does not offer.
But what about the casual user who just wants to touch up photos? Photoshop can have a steep learning curve for those not familiar with the product, and more time will be spent learning the applicatoin then actual work. So where is the happy medium for a user where an application is both easy to use, and quick to make the edits necessary? The answer comes in a small Mac application called Picturesque.

The Ins and Outs of Jaikoz Audio File Meta Data Program
Posted on 06. Apr, 2009 by LesliePoston.
I am a Mac junkie, and a music lover. I have over 80GB of music, most of which I’ve imported from records, cassettes and CDs that I own. This means that much of my collection had issues with tags, missing album art and more meta data problems than you could shake a stick at. Then a friend recommended Jaikoz to me and I must say that it has made me a very happy girl.

For all our Mac fans, I took to listing the top five blogging tools for the platform. Blogging has quickly become the media form of choice not just for individuals, but for large news outlets as well. The freedom that comes with blogging has attracted people from all walks of life, with interests as varied as stars in the sky.
With all the opportunity in the blogosphere, it was important for me to share the tools that I use as a Mac owner with the audience of Lost in Technology. If you’ve not blogged out there before, these tools are not blogging platform specific. Blogger, Typepad, Movable Type and Wordpress all work with these tools. Take the plunge and share your thoughts with the world. Make sure you leave a comment below with your blog site so that our readers can visit and interact with you on your site.
Please note that not all the tools came FREE, some had a small price attached, but the software more than paid for itself when it came time to get posts done. If you are a MAC owner, make sure to check the series out and chime in with your thoughts on the applications, or perhaps if you use other methods, share those as well.

Top 5 Blogging Tools for Mac: Tool #2 Ecto
Posted on 19. Nov, 2008 by Luis Sandoval.
After gathering all your information through Newsfire and formulating the post in your head, it’s time to take that idea and put it on “paper.” Writing can be the hardest for those that are not used to writing on a regular basis, and writing via the online tools like Blogger and Wordpress may not be what that person needs. Even if you are a great writer, sometimes you have ideas you want to put down and an online connection is just not something you can find at the moment. Sure you can open Microsoft Word and take matters into your own hands, but there is an alternative.
A very popular tool that I use a regular basis and one that I’m using right now is called Ecto. Ecto is an offline blog writing application that allows you to have all the tools that a standard blog application would have, except you do not rely on an internet connection. The application is intuitive, easy to use, and once set up (which you do need an internet connection for), Ecto is yours to create with.
