Schedule Hard Drives to Defragment Automatically

defrag-iconHave you ever noticed that the more you add and subtract videos, documents, MP3s, pictures, games, and so on to your computer the slower it gets?  This is partly due to what known as fragmentation of your data.  Windows does a few funny things with your files when you uninstall and install programs all the time.

The easiest way to get your computer back up to speed is to defrag it.  Performing regular defragmentation of your hard drive will certainly improve your file and application load time.  However, in the hurry of our daily tasks we often forget about doing this, so here is a way to schedule your PC to do do it for you.

WARNING:  It is not recommend, nor is it necessary to defragment solid state drives, which includes flash drives.  Doing so may cause damage to the drive.

How To Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows XP

windows-logoMost of us have come to a point in our computer lives where we’ve found the need for another operating system, or the desire to try a different one. However, in doing so, we may not be willing or able to give up you current OS, and we just can’t justify spending money on another computer when you have a perfectly healthy one right in front of us. Don’t fret, there a couple approaches you can use to solve this dilemma.

One option is to use a third-party software like VMware or VirtualBox to setup a virtual machine (if your computer’s hardware supports it), and the other, which is what I’m going to discuss today, is to setup a dual boot operating system on your computer.

In this article, I’m going to show you how to install Windows 7 on a computer running Windows XP using a single hard drive, or two separate ones.

Free Tools Spruce Up the Feel of Windows XP on Netbooks

netbookMost netbooks come with Windows XP, and it is about the only way to get Windows XP.  Windows XP works great for the basic functions that netbooks provide: basic web surfing, email and office work.  You may be fine with Windows XP, but that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck with the boring default Windows XP theme.

There are a few free (and paid) tools to dress up the look of Windows XP while maintaining the Windows look and feel.  I’m going to discuss several applications that will breathe a little life into your Windows XP install.
