chart-icon Evaluating the performance of our computers is probably one of the most basic tasks everyone has to perform. Whether its to determine application compatibility or just for sheer bragging rights, everyone is interested to know exactly how fast their computer is. But how do you measure the performance of your computer? And no the answer just isn’t clock speed – the prime factor which most people consider solely while making buying decisions. And its not the number of processing cores, or the amount of RAM or hard drive or your graphics card.

The only correct way to measure the performance of your computer is to benchmark its execution, that is, measure the time it takes to run a program. For this purpose, we have benchmark applications, which are simply called benchmarks.  Let’s get started on determining how much better your computer is than your friend’s down the street.

photo bookPhotos are so beloved that to lose them would crush a person. Many people keep them just on their computer, but doing that can be especially dangerous. Hard drives fail all the time, and losing all your pictures would be heartbreaking.

In a worst case scenario, you always want to have backups elsewhere. While backing them up on an external hard drive is a fine backup, here are some tools that will backup your photos online for offsite backup.  Offsite backup gives you that extra layer of protection, so you can keep your memories around forever.

How To Use Apple’s Magic Mouse on a Windows PC

Posted on 24. Dec, 2009 by UzEE.

Magic MouseApple’s hardware is notorious for having elegant designs backed by innovative engineering. From their desktops (like iMacs) to handheld devices (like the iPods), every single piece of hardware is an example of excellent craftsmanship.

So is the case with their newly unveiled Magic Mouse, which replaced their previous Mighty Mouse in their mainstream desktop lineup. The Magic Mouse’s main highlight isn’t its curved design or the elegant build – it’s what features it packs. The whole surface of the mouse is a capacitive sensor giving you full multi-touch control over your Mac.

Unfortunately, those in the Windows PC camp (which includes Bootcamp users) were left in the cold because the mouse only worked with Apple’s machines. And to make things worse, the only devices with similar functionality for the PC market are a couple of engineering prototypes by Microsoft – which even though are far more advanced, would still require lots of time before going mainstream.

Thankfully to fill in this gap, a couple of wonderful people from UnEasySilence have managed to make their Magic Mouse work on computers running Microsoft Windows. Here is a simple how-to guide for you to get the same functionality on your machine.

issuu logoFor more than 500 years, humanity has disseminated information in the forms of printed books and journals. Printing implies a delay of several months after an article is written before it is published in a paper journal, and this makes journals not an ideal format for disseminating the latest scientific research.

But now with the Internet, people can express themselves  by electronic publishing or e-publishing which combines text, images, video, and sound to create dynamic expressions of their thoughts and knowledge in minutes.

Since online publishing is usually free, it is perfect for writers, teachers, students, photographers, composers and musicians who can bring their creations alive and reach a global audiences. According to Wikipedia “There is statistical evidence that electronic publishing provides wider dissemination than printed one”.  Moreover, an e-published writer has the possibility to correct an error of fact or judgment because e-publishing is a fluid medium where the user can change content.

If you are looking  for an online publisher, you might want to try Issuu where  you can explore a world of publications by people and publishers alike. You can also collect, share and publish in a format designed to make your documents look their best.  Issuu is a popular destination for quality publications on the web, and it allows you to post parts or all of your work.

How To Create a Form in Google Docs

google docsOne of the top reasons I like Google Docs a lot is because it is super easy to setup a web form for quick data collection. In fact, this is the feature I use the most out of the entire suite of services Google Docs has to offer. Sure there are a lot of ways to setup a simple data collection form (like surveys etc) but where Google Docs shines is that it actually collects the data in the form of a spreadsheet so you can apply any sort of data processing which you please.

Setting up a form is very quick and easy. There are many controls available at our disposal, covering a broad range of input options. I’ll explain the process of creating a form with an example – a scenario where you’re making a registration form for an event, something that I do a lot on Google Docs.
