twitterTwitter is…hard to describe, but if I had to, I would describe it as text messaging with strangers. The makers of Twitter, however, have a much better description of their service.

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Now that you have an idea of what Twitter is, I’m going to show you the basics of using the site.

Homepage

twitter home

This is what your basic homepage at Twitter will look like. You have the option to change the color scheme and upload an image, but that is the extent of customizing the homepage. Now, I’m going to show you the rest of your homepage.

What are you doing?

twitter what

This is what the site is about. Answering this simple question has proved to be amazingly fun. Just type in your answer and hit update for all the world to see it.

What is everyone in your network doing?

twitter feed

Your homepage will have a feed right below the “What are you doing?’ box. This is where you get to see what all of your friends are up to. You are also able to reply to their posts by typing “@theirname” then a message.

Adding Friends

Twitter makes it easy to add or invite friends. Just click on the “Find & Follow” tab at the top right of your homepage. The following page will open up and guide you on how to find your friends on Twitter.

Well, there you have it. The basics of Twitter. I really enjoy what Twitter has to offer and hope you guys will come join me.

And now, as it turns out, you’re nobody if you’re not on twitter (at least according to the song: http://tinyurl.com/6dvzef ;-)
