Configure and Optimize Windows with FreshUI
Posted on 04. Jun, 2009 by Kyle Judkins in Software, Windows
Tweaking the settings of our computers is a great past time for some of us. Some users are more advanced than others and can dive right into those registry files and whatever other unknown files all throughout Windows. I am someone that needs a little help and guidance when trying to edit those advanced settings. FreshUI makes it easy to look through many of your Windows’ settings and easily edit them without having to search every nook and cranny of your computer.
Downloading and Registering
The download for FreshUI is the same as normal, but in order to keep using FreshUI and get all of the features, you must register your copy. This can be a bit of a pain, but it is FREE software and only takes a few minutes. All you have to do is fill out a couple things and FreshDevices will send you a registration code. Just enter that into the software, and it is all yours.
What Settings Can You Change
FreshUI opens up and has an extremely simple and easy to use sidebar that allows you to quickly look through the settings in your computer.
As you can see, there are six main areas to choose from.
- Applications
- Windows Explorer
- Hardware
- Windows Interface
- Windows System
- Covering Your Track
These areas are pretty self-explanatory as to what is including in them, but if you are curious, just maximize a folder or two. This should immediately give you an idea of all the settings and options you can change.
Tools
FreshUI also comes with four tools to help you even more.
- Dr. Watson – This will help you check your system.
- File Signature Verification – You can use this to verify a signature of a file.
- Registry Editor – This is just a short cut that will pop up your registry editor.
- System Configuration Editor – Edit your system configuration.
Keep Your Settings Safe
Many of the settings you can change in FreshUI are extremely advanced and could cause problems on your computer if you do change them. FreshUI helps you combat any screw ups with a backup system. All you have to do is open up the File menu and click Save Windows Settings to backup your current settings. If you change something that causes problems, you can just restore the original settings you backed up. As someone that has messed up a few computers in my time, I always highly recommend using any backup options that are present.
Conclusion
FreshUI is a simple program that lets you make advanced setting changes very easily. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to change some of their more advanced Windows’ settings, but I must say to just make sure and backup those settings in order to prevent any slip ups.
Do you use tools like this to change your settings? If so, what tools do you use?

Nice utility. I usually just scour the web, then fire up Regedit or MSConfig to make lower level system tweaks.
