How to Customize Your Windows Right Click Context Menu
Posted on 20. Jan, 2012 by Sandy Ag in How To, Windows
People are always on the look out for something that will help them perform their tasks or errands just a little bit faster. This is especially true when we are all sitting on a computer. There are scripts, shortcuts, apps and processes to help us move things as fast as possible on our computer.
In this context, I wish to share through this article, a handy tool that will let you make full use of the right click context menu. Ultimate Windows Context Menu Customizer lets you bring anything you want to the right click menu. Let’s take a look at how to use this software to add in these right click menu features.
How to Get Going?
You may follow the link to download the application. You do not have to install it. Just unzip the folder and launch the tool as an administrator. When the interface appears, you may modify almost any right click option at any location, file or folder to optimize the the menu to your liking.
Add a Pre-Defined Item
The right pane of the interface shows two categories of pre-defined items: Apps and Commands. To add any item to a context menu, you need to select the context menu location. Next, select the app or command and hit “Add Item” at the bottom-left corner.
The item appears in the desired context menu. In my case, I made MSPaint available on my desktop context menu.
Add a Customized Item
Apart from the list, we may create our own items. Again, you need to choose the context menu location. Next, give your item a name to identify on the menu list. I created one to launch LostInTechnology on Firefox from the desktop.
This requires a command like firefox <website URL>. Similarly, you may use any other browser. To go to a specific folder location, type explorer <folder path>. You also have a choice to attach an icon to customized items. Then, select the best position in the menu for your new option.
Remove or Edit Items
Having added an item, you may at times wish to remove one or modify the customized ones. Select the context menu location followed by the menu item from the middle pane. Hit “Remove Item” to completely discard it or edit an item and say “Edit Item”.
If you want something to be unavailable temporarily, check the option “Disable”. Checking “Extended” will display the options only on doing Shift + Right Click.
Conclusion
This is a cool and awesome way to optimize the right click options. Try out adding customized items for yourself and share the commands you encounter as comments.
