How To Make Your PC Sleep/Wake Using a Custom Hotkey

The Windows OS has its very own power management mode which allows users to play around with a host of different features including defining and selecting a power plan (power saving, balanced, high performance or customized modes), setup password authentications, assign what happens when the lid of your laptop is closed, and a whole lot more configurations related to sleep/hibernation/power settings. In this article, we will go through the process of defining a custom hotkey(s), which when pressed will make your PC/Laptop to go into sleep mode/come out from sleep mode. Knowing when to put your system into sleep mode saves up a lot of power and extends your battery life. Managing your power options well can come in handy, especially in circumstances when you need your system to last long (i.e. while travelling).

Defining a Custom Hotkey to Sleep/Wake Your System

Before you can go about setting up a hotkey, you will first need to download and install a small app called Super Sleep. Usually, when trying to ‘wake up’ your system from sleep mode, pressing any key will let you do that. However, with an app Super Sleep, you can define a certain key to ensure only pressing that key will bring your system back from sleep mode. In simple terms, the app will basically lock up all the other keys on your keyboard, so pressing them will be of no use, except for the custom hotkey that you have defined. You can download Super Sleep from this link. Once the app is downloaded and installed, simply right click on the app’s icon in your taskbar, and select ‘Settings’.
