teracopy logoI have been a Windows user for a long time now, but I have always been a little disappointed at the speed of copying large files.  I always figured that this should be a quick and easy process that can be executed fairly quickly, but Windows apparently disagrees with me.

TeraCopy is a useful piece of software that helps Windows move those large files around more quickly.  This has made moving my massive iTunes library a couple hour ordeal instead of a weekend ordeal.

Usage

TeraCopy is extremely easy to use.  All you have to do is download and install it.  TeraCopy will automatically take the place of your regular Windows transfer.  Copy your files just like you normally would and TeraCopy will take over.

You are able to see the status bar and the progress of your file transfer as a percentage.  At the end of the transfer, you will be able to see how long the transfer took.  You can use this to compare how long it takes a normal Windows transfer.

Features

  • Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.
  • Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.
  • Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer.
  • Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.
  • Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.
  • Full Unicode support.

Conclusion

If you copy large files often or have a big file you’ve been meaning to transfer, TeraCopy is a great program that will speed up your productivity and make transfers much less frustrating.

I’m a huge teracopy fan - windows will often error out on moving files larger than 10gb for me, teracopy always works and does the transfer faster!

I used TeraCopy for a while but switched to FastCopy a couple months ago. Give it a try, it seems to be faster to me.

You should try supercopier 2, it’s opensource and thus free :) Besides, I tried teracopy but don’t like it as much.
